Gin and Ginger

Has summer really ended..? I don’t believe you..
If so, why was it like 100 degrees yesterday?  100 degrees in rush hour traffic.. Am I exaggerating? Yes.. but that’s ok.. because it took me over an hour to get home.
At one point, I saw this guy walking down the side of the highway and immediately wondered if I parked my car and did the same would I perhaps get home faster.
How much does it cost to catch a ride home on those helicopters? You know the ones that fly over traffic to tell you where the delays are…Is that even an option..?
This needs to be an option.

I’m still looking into the answer to that.
In the meantime, let’s have a drink to calm those rush hour woes.. A little Gin goes a long way, a lot Gin will have you laying on the floor asking Jesus to save you. I’ve had a few of those experiences.. Snoop Dog’s encouragement to drink that classic Gin and Juice didn’t help either.  Being more of a Bourbon drinker, I’ve had to develop a love for that juniper infused spirit over time.. It’s a process, not all Gin is created equal.. Your basic Gin and Tonic ain’t my thang.. But shake it up with a little ginger simple syrup, some lemon juice and you’ll have me dancing all night long like Lionel Richie.
You thought I was going to say Twerkin didn’t ya..
Nope..Still none of that here..
Just this refreshing cocktail that I’m sure has some other fancy ass name, but to me it’s just Gin and Ginger.

And my take on it is this.. Ginger is good for your circulation, Lemon for vitamin C and Gin is herbal, right?
So this is more than just any ole cocktail.. It’s a cure for what ails ya..
Like going 2 miles an hour on a 5 lane highway for an hour and a half..
Maybe I should start a new series.. some Rush Hour Cocktail realness..

Gin and Ginger Cocktail

Ingredients:
2 ½ oz. Gin (I used Hendricks)
½ oz. lemon juice
1 oz. Ginger Simple Syrup (recipe follows)

Ginger Simple Syrup:
¾ cup granulated sugar
½ cup water
3 tablespoons fresh grated ginger

In a small saucepan, bring sugar and water to a boil. Add grated ginger and reduce heat to a simmer. Stir until sugar dissolves and ginger infuses the syrup. About 3 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool before using.

Directions for the cocktail:
Pour  Gin, lemon juice and ginger simple syrup into a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes. Shake well
Strain into a glass, and serve..

  3. Erika, you're speaking my language (no not twerking). I'm all about simple drinks that highlight the flavor of the ingredients. Plus, any time you can work Snoop Dogg into a post it's a winner in my book :P Thanks for sharing!!

  5. Technically, there are still almost three weeks of summer left. You're not imagining it. This drink sounds great. I want to try to learn to be a gin drinker. It just seems like something a grown up would do.

  9. oooh I love ginger syrup in drinks. Usually I do rum and ginger but it looks delicious with gin!

I used to have a shitty long commute that involved sitting and waiting at the bridge foooreevveeerr. So I forced myself to pretend that I was just in a comfortable chair listening to music (which is technically true, my car is comfy and I made itunes playlists for my rides). Basically pretended that I had chosen to have some alone time for music and for some reason decided to have it in the middle of the road.

  13. I'm still getting used to gin, but with ginger, I could be convinced to drink it all day every day. Thankfully I don't have to commute because that would instantly turn me into an alcoholic just to cope with sitting in a car for that long!
