16 Bars Cocktail Series: The Seelbach

The Seelbach

The term “16 Bars” is the standard length of a rap verse. This series is a combination of my love of hip hop and cocktails found at some of my favorite bars.

“Even when the skies were gray You would rub me on my back and say baby it’ll be ok”

Valentines… are you sick of hearing about it yet?
Well hold that thought cause I made y'all a drink..
I’m sort of a Valentines skeptic.. And before you cut me with a side eye..let me explain..
No finding love ..
No more like finding a person deserving of your love…is true testament in perseverance.
It’s not easy or simple therefore merits more than just a day or month of appreciation..
For the longest I took the “Tina Turner” approach.. Tina asked what love’s got to do with it and told us it’s a just second hand emotion..
She was also a private dancer who kept her mind on the money and eyes on the wall.
So I realized her advice might not of been that stellar.
Anyway, as for my own advice on love and relationships. I’ve got nothing..
What I do have is Bourbon.. Which I’ve been in a passionate love affair with for a very long time. It's been by my side through heartbreak and breakups and tire slashing and phone calls and hang ups… It also eventually lead me to a guy who shares my love for Pappy Van Winkle, classic sneakers and hip hop. He also has the patience of a saint because I have colossal size issues. (just keepin it real)
So here’s to Bourbon and its healing power..
To loving yourself enough to be able to love someone else
To quiet nights at home and partners with patience…

“We’re only human girl we make mistakes, to make it up I’ll do whatever it takes.
I love like a fat kid loves cake…
You know my style I’ll do anything to make you smile..”

  1. Love bourbon, love this post, love these killer photos!

  2. Just gorgeous. The recipes, the photos your words. You killed it!

  3. love the light in these photos. also Valentines is way overrated - its much better to have someone who loves you year round (like I know your hubby loves you, issues and all) than someone who shows out one day of the year.

  4. I absolutely agree with your words, Erika. Building strong bonds takes so much more than just a day. This drink, on the other hand – I think I could fall in love with it in just one moment.

    1. One sip was all it took.. Thanks Alanna!

  5. Oooh we should have collaborated on a Valentine's day cocktail hour! I'm so lost when it comes to using bitters right and am in serious need of some guidance - this seems like the perfect cocktail to start with!

  6. Oh, yes please! I must make this immediately. I love the color of this drink and your photos are so dreamy. I finally tracked down some Pappy at one of those trendy speakeasy-type bars (I was with Cindy and Megan!) and they had 4 different types and I can't remember the ages, but it was all pricey. My husband ordered the cheapest one and it was incredible! And...our server didn't charge us for it. One of these days I'll have track down a bottle, but it's so much work, ha.

  7. I will take two! Can't wait to try this recipe STAT!

Thank you so much for your comments... I read each one with a kool-aid smile..
