Apple Butter Drop Biscuits
Prep Time-20mins Cook Time- 15mins Yield- One Dozen
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
2 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 stick- 1/2 cup of cold butter, unsalted, cut into cubes
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup apple butter- I used Musselman’s
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line baking sheet with parchment paper
In a bowl, mix together flours, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Cut in cold butter by using your fingertips to rub butter into dry ingredients until mixture looks like crumbs. Make well in the center and pour in buttermilk. Stir just until dough comes together, stir in apple butter until well combined. Dough will be sticky.
Drop spoonfuls of dough onto prepared baking sheet. About 2 tablespoons per biscuit, depending on the size biscuits you want.
Bake for 15 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown on the top. Remove from the oven and serve while hot. I realize that some wait to let the biscuits cool for a bit ,but to me biscuits are best serve while hot enough to melt a slather of butter. 🙂 Slather is a great word..
